Couldn't agree more - my old man believed in discipline but I, and my brothers, was an unruly & difficult teenage boy. Had many "appointments" in our basement with a variety of "instruments of persuasion" (the cane and the extension cable being among the worst!!) Kept me in my place - later in life I realised that if the old man hadn't taken me in hand I would have finished up in a bad place!! I bear him no ill will. Anyway a hard thrashing was preferable to grounding any day!!! Of course, we always got the hormonal "rush" - actually, nothing like a damn good thrashing from the old man to clear your head!!!
